The Cosmetician Fairytale also Gets to the End

erasmus june

Beginning of June

Their story started five weeks ago, at the beginning of June, when the young cosmeticians arrived in the Canarian islands. The eleven apprentices are students of the German vocational school, Herwig-Blankertz-Berufskolleg, and they came to Tenerife to pursue their passion for the beauty industry with the local professionals. As is the case with all of our interns, they started with language preparation and exploration of the island, then later, they began working in the beauty saloons of Puerto de la Cruz. At the end of the program, we asked them how they felt about their internships, their stay on Tenerife and their opinion of the Spanish culture.

Aleyna:

“It was a wonderful experience! I like the people here. They are all nice, including my coworkers and the customers. I had a lot of work to do. I learned how to do French manicure and how to work with wax. I can recommend it to everyone!”

Anna:

“We had a lot of German and English customers so I had the opportunity to help them with translation. It was a nice experience. I liked my job and my colleagues, but I don’t care for the weather here. It is changing all the time.”

Isabell:

“I learned so many new things, including face cleaning, manicure, pedicure, massage, haircut, washing and drying hair, and I also made a wedding hairdo once. My motivation and inspiration here are the people. They are really nice to each other, and they are all relaxed.”

Saying goodbyes to the interns

Shanice:

“I really enjoyed the time spent here. I learned how to make gel nails, and I had more international clients, which were mainly Germans and British. For anyone who is coming here, I recommend that you start learning Spanish sooner than later because it will help you a lot.”

Natalie:

“It was a unique opportunity. I learned  a lot. I was able to practice Spanish and also travel. I visited the South of Tenerife, Los Cristianos, and the bigger cities in the North. My favourite was Santa Cruz. It is a beautiful city with really nice people.”

The interns had a really exciting month filled with many learning experiences, a lot of work and several new friendships. The journey has now come to an end, as the cosmeticians will leave on Sunday. We wish them safe travel and good luck as they pursue all their dreams! We are looking forward to welcoming the second group of students from Herwig-Blankertz-Berufskolleg in September!
