PROJECT DESCRIPTION

6 German Hospitality Students Doing Their Internship Abroad with us in Tenerife!

Spanish classes for Erasmus + mobility project

German students

On the 21st of February, 6 new German students found their way to our school by way of yet another Erasmus+ mobility project that we helped to organize. These students, coming from the hospitality school of “Hermann-Gmeiner-Berufskolleg” in Germany, received one week of intensive Spanish classes before heading off to the internship that we helped arrange here in Puerto de la Cruz.

Accommodation

During their entire stay, we provided them with two of our shared flats which are only located a short walk away from the school. We also made sure that the establishments of their internships were within walking distance.

About the Programme

In their first week, they were taught the basics of Spanish at our language school in order to prepare them for the upcoming internship. After these classes, they were invited to participate in our free afternoon activities such as salsa lessons, beach volleyball and visits to the botanical garden. This first week also allowed for them to get accustomed to their new environment, as well as to get to know Puerto de la Cruz and Tenerife in general.

Each of the students received a spot at one of 4 participating establishments in the field of their studies where they were able to intern as a waiter/waitress, in the kitchen, or at the bar. Within the establishments, there was always one supervisor responsible for the students, making sure that they would get the most out of their internship. One of the students even stayed with us in our own FU Cafe to work as a waitress and behind the bar.

The Outcome

The outcome of this Erasmus + mobility project, that specifically catered to the area of Hospitality, was that the students who participated were able to gain work experience in an unknown environment, requiring them to get accustomed to a new job under special circumstances. At their internship, they also had to communicate in both English and Spanish which helped them improve their language skills.

We always enjoy collaborating on these projects because of their guaranteed success. We wish our German students a safe trip home and hope that they gained a lot from this unique experience.
