PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Basketball Leonardo Project June 8th – 22nd 2013

The FU International Academy is delighted to welcome another group of 7 young Basketball students and 2 teachers from the Bristol Academy of Sport in England. The students are aspiring elite sportsmen who are able to train in their chosen sport whilst continuing their academic studies at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College while attending one of the top sports academies in the UK. They are here as part of the EU Lifelong Learning Leonardo da Vinci programme.

During their first week, they combine Spanish language classes and afternoon cultural activities to help them acclimatize. In the evening they train with a local club in the town of La Orotava. Their second week will see them visiting two local schools (CEIP Punta Brava and the British School of Tenerife) to put their coaching skills and new found language skills into practice. In the past, these coaching sessions have been an enormous success and a great experience for both the students and the young school children who are not only delighted with the change from their normal routine but genuinely participate in the sessions with great enthusiasm.

Due to the success of these innovative sports projects in Tenerife, the College has been granted funding for another two years.
