Bristol Academy Students Take Part in Sports Mobility Project at Golf Course

Bristol Academy Golfers Mobility Project Tenerife

Bristol Academy of Sports

In March 2016, we welcomed the second round of Bristol Academy of Sports students to take part in our sport mobility project – an internship that helps students prepare for a career in sports. This time around, Erasmus+ gave seven golfers, aged 17-19 years, the opportunity to participate in a 3-week internship at two of three participating golf courses in the South of Tenerife, as well as one week of intensive Spanish courses.

Bristol Academy of Sports + Erasmus+ Tenerife = A Match Made in Heaven

The program for this Erasmus+ mobility project was carefully selected (as always!) to guarantee an effective and eventful stay for the students. The Bristol Academy of Sports has been our partner for several years and we continue to enjoy this collaboration.

About the program

For the first three days, the students received intensive Spanish classes in the mornings to help prepare them for their upcoming internship. In the afternoons, they were free to join the wide range of weekly cultural activities that the FU Academy offers its language students. Those activities include salsa and flamenco lessons, a visit to the botanical garden that’s located right across the street from our school, and even a free surfing lesson that was organized separately for our group of golfers. The also took part in a huge Crossfit session on Wednesday, went golding in Buenavista on Thursday, and on Friday, they visited the spectacular, must-see zoo of Tenerife: Loro Parque.

In weeks 2 and 3, the students were separated into two groups with each starting their internship at one of the two cooperating golf courses in the South of Tenerife. In the last week of their stay, the students were able to do another internship all together at the Abama Golf course, which is also located in the south.

On the weekends, students were given a day to explore Tenerife as they wished while also taking part in an organized day trip. These trips comprised of a visit to Siam Park, which is one of the world’s biggest water parks; a catamarán trip to the whale watching hotspot in southern Tenerife, where they also had the opportunity to go snorkeling; and a much-anticipated trip to Mount Teide for a good walk in the snow.

Accommodation & Food

During the first week, both the students and their accompanying supervisors stayed at the Puerto Resort Blue Sea Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz. For their internship, they were transferred to the Compostela Beach Resort located in the South of the island. We organized transportation to and from the airport, as well as hotel accommodations and island excursions to make sure everything went smoothly. Breakfast and dinner were included at the hotels, and lunch was provided at our school and at the golf courses during the internship.

This Erasmus+ mobility project, centered around 7 Golf Students from the Bristol Academy of Sports, was yet another successful initiative. We are looking forward to the next group of athletes that will come to our school to experience this opportunity.
